Communication Action Network (CAN Transform our union)
CUE-Teamsters campaign kickoff for a great contract.
This past weekend more than fifty CUE-Teamster leaders and staff from almost every campus came together to kickoff our campaign to get a fair contract that respects the sacrifices and contributions made to the University of California by its 14,000 clerical and allied services workers.
At our meeting in Los Angeles, in addition to doing some contract planning, we got an overview of how the Teamsters work, a legal update, and an overview of how to run strategic contract campaigns.
We were also introduced to a powerful new program called the Communication Action Network (CAN). Implementing a CAN network will transform our union into a more effective advocate for the clerical and allied services workforce that has been treated unfairly by the UC administration for too long. With the help of the Teamsters, we have put together an ambitious plan to win fair pay and benefits, fair treatment and the recognition we deserve.
We left our meeting more determined than ever to win this fight, and now, with the backing of the Teamsters and our new Communication Action Network, we have the plan and means to win. However, we need your help. Here is how it works:
We will build a CAN network of motivated CUE-Teamster members at each campus who will commit to communicate one-on-one to 5 to 7 UC clerical workers they know in their own workplace. They will pass on important information to their co- workers and discuss ways these workers can participate in CUE-Teamster efforts to win a fair contract.
Most importantly, the CAN is a two-way communications network that will allow clerical and allied services workers to share their own views and ideas on ways to win a fair contract, and on what you can do to help the CUE-Teamsters campaign for fair treatment and respect.
We will use this grassroots network to let the University understand that we are all determined to get a fair and just contract that is long overdue.
We will be seeking volunteers on all campuses and conducting Communication Action Network trainings.
If you feel you can help out by spending no more that 15-30 minutes a week talking briefly one-on-one to your co-workers, please sign up to be the CAN Communication Action Representative in your workplace with your information completed in the form below.
Yes! I want more information about becoming a CUE-Teamster Communication Action Representative in my workplace. I want to help fight for a fair contract that respects clerical and allied services workers and the important work we do. When we all get involved we’ll start winning.
